Soyeon Kim works with public housing residents in New York City to transform their communities into better places to live, believing that everyone deserves a voice in the decisions that affect their neighborhoods.
As a Research Analyst and Community Planner in the Real Estate Development Department at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), she combines data analysis with on-the-ground engagement to empower residents and build a better future together. She acts as a bridge between residents, developers, and other stakeholders, ensuring they have the information and support needed to fully participate in the planning process of the PACT program and other initiatives within the NYCHA Real Estate Development Department.
Soyeon is deeply committed to addressing the systemic barriers that prevent historically underserved communities from accessing affordable housing and achieving upward mobility. She understands that access to quality housing is about more than just shelter—it’s about creating opportunities for economic stability, educational attainment, and overall well-being. This commitment drives her work every day.
Growing up in an apartment complex in Busan, South Korea, Soyeon experienced firsthand the power of shared spaces and the importance of strong community bonds. Now living in Brooklyn and working with public housing residents, this personal experience strengthens her commitment to building inclusive cities where residents feel empowered to reimagine their own neighborhoods.
Soyeon holds a Master of Science in Urban Planning from Columbia University, along with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Design Studies from Hanyang University.
